One of UK greyhound racing’s most prestigious competitions returns to Nottingham Stadium on Monday when the 68th running of the Premier Greyhound Racing Eclipse Stakes gets underway.
First run in 1938, the competition will be held over three successive Monday evenings with 36 greyhounds and their connections hoping to add Category One success – the highest level of UK greyhound racing – to their CVs.
The £20,000 competition starts on Monday, November 13, with the fastest three greyhounds in six qualifying heats advancing to the following week’s semi-finals before the Grand Final is held on November 27.
A host of star names have been declared to run including Clona Duke, Romeo Command and Savana Beau who have all reached the English Greyhound Derby final in recent campaigns.
David Evans, General Manager at Nottingham Stadium, said the competition will bring three weeks of the highest quality racing in the country to the Colwick Park venue and encouraged racegoers to enjoy the action trackside.
“The Premier Greyhound Racing Eclipse Stakes is a competition all trainers and owners dream of winning,” said David. “We’re proud to have hosted the event for 36 years and this year’s competition is wide-open.
“We’ve attracted a strong blend of greyhounds proven at Category One level and some of the sport’s rising stars who no doubt have very bright futures ahead of them.
“General admission remains at £7 for adults and our trackside and restaurant packages are available to book online via our website. Following the official draw on Friday, excitement for Monday’s opening round is tangible and we hope to welcome plenty of racegoers trackside for our Round One qualifiers.”
